Soak the metal filters flat in hot water with a non-caustic degreaser, never a dishwasher if they are aluminium mesh. If the hood recirculates rather than ducting outside, replace the charcoal filter every six to twelve months rather than washing it.
Neff hoods are competent BSH appliances and the general method, filters out, soaked flat, then the impeller housing behind them, is on our rangehood cleaning guide. Two things are worth knowing about this badge specifically.
It is a BSH hood, and that makes parts easier
Neff, Bosch and Siemens hoods share a great deal of engineering, including filter dimensions, mounting arrangements and motor assemblies.
That matters in a specific situation. Hood filters lose their labels, model stickers fade in a warm greasy environment, and replacement filters are usually listed by dimension rather than by badge. If you cannot find a Neff part for an older hood, the equivalent Bosch or Siemens listing has a fair chance of being the same component in a different box.
It also means a mixed BSH kitchen, which is common where appliances were bought at different times, takes one approach across all of it. See how to clean a Bosch rangehood.
Ducted or recirculating decides half the job
Ducted hoods push air outside and carry metal grease filters only. Recirculating hoods return filtered air to the kitchen and carry a charcoal filter behind the metal ones for odour.
Charcoal is a consumable, replaced every six to twelve months and never washed, because washing produces a wet obstruction that restricts airflow without helping smell. This is worth checking on any hood installed in an apartment, where ducting outside is often impossible and the original charcoal filter is frequently still fitted.
Neff hoods are usually specified with a Neff kitchen
Neff sells into fitted kitchens rather than as replacement appliances, so a Neff hood is almost always accompanied by a Neff oven and often a Neff hob, installed together and used from the same day.
That has a practical effect on condition. The three appliances are the same age and have done the same amount of work, and the hood is invariably the one furthest behind, because an oven announces its state with smoke and a hood simply gets quieter about doing less. On a Neff kitchen of any age, if the oven is due then the hood is overdue.
It also means the hood was chosen to suit the hob beneath it rather than bought on price, so a Neff hood that seems not to keep up is far more likely to be loaded than undersized.
What actually goes wrong
A charcoal filter that has never been replaced in a recirculating install.
Grey mesh filters from a dishwasher cycle.
An owner searching for a Neff-badged filter that is listed under a sibling brand.
A hum or rattle from an impeller loaded unevenly, which filter cleaning does not address.
Should you do it yourself?
Do it yourself for the filters every couple of months.
