The difference
From burnt-on to streak-free.
Gas, electric and induction cooktops each need a different touch. We lift off the removable parts, work the surface itself, then refit and check every burner.
Burner caps.
Burner caps and burners are lifted off and degreased, then the ports are checked so each one lights cleanly when we refit it.
Trivets & grates.
Cast-iron trivets and grates soak in our degreasing solution and are scrubbed back, clearing the grime that builds up underneath.
The surface.
Stainless steel is polished, glass and ceramic left streak-free, and induction surfaces cleaned without abrasives that could scratch them.
Gas, ceramic, induction
Three cooktops, three different problems
What a cooktop needs depends entirely on what kind it is, and the three common kinds fail in completely different ways. Getting that wrong is how a cooktop ends up permanently marked by somebody trying to help.
A gas cooktop has the most parts and the most forgiving surface. Trivets, burner caps and crowns all lift off and soak, which is the only way to clear the slots around a crown. Those slots are the burner ports, and a blocked port is why one section of a ring burns yellow or lifts off the metal. The other half of a gas job is the tray or bench the burners sit in, where boil-over runs under the trivet and hardens into a ring that is out of reach of a cloth and is the part everybody actually looks at.
A ceramic or radiant electric top is one flat sheet of glass with elements underneath, so there is nothing to take apart and nothing forgiving about it. Sugar is the real enemy here: a sugary spill on a hot zone etches the glass permanently if it is left to cool, which is a mark and not a stain and will not come off however hard anybody works at it. Everything else lifts with the right product and a proper blade held flat, which is the tool for the job and also the tool most likely to score a top if it is held at an angle.
An induction top looks identical to ceramic and behaves differently, because the glass itself barely gets hot. Spills therefore do not bake on, and the film that builds up is a soft, dulling haze rather than carbon. It responds to method rather than force. The one thing that matters on an induction top is that abrasive pads and powders leave a fine scratch pattern that catches light forever afterwards, so the surface is worth protecting more than it is worth scrubbing.
The reason we mention all of this is that the cooktop is only half of what is going on. Most of what lands on it came off the pan, and most of what came off the pan went up into the rangehood. Cleaning the cooktop while leaving a loaded hood above it is the shorter-lived half of the job.
We have also written cooktop cleaning guides by brand, which are worth a read before you attack anything with a scourer.

The Full Valet, from $585
A cooktop is the cheapest appliance there is to add to a visit that is already happening, and it is almost never the only thing in the kitchen that needs doing. Adding the cooktop to an oven clean is $75 instead of $115, and the rangehood is the same. Take all four appliances together and the package is from $585 against $715 booked one at a time, so you keep $130 and three of the four mornings. It is booked as your operator's whole day, so yours is the only job they take.
