How to Clean a Bellini Rangehood

In a package kitchen this is the appliance with no advocate. The oven smokes, the hob is visible, and the hood simply gets quieter about doing less.

Soak the aluminium mesh filters flat in hot water with a non-caustic degreaser rather than putting them through a dishwasher. In an apartment the hood likely recirculates, so check for a charcoal filter behind the metal ones and replace it rather than washing it.

A Bellini hood is the third item in a Harvey Norman kitchen package, and in a first home or an apartment it is frequently the first rangehood its owner has ever had responsibility for.

Nobody has told you it needs anything

That is the honest situation on this brand, and it is worth saying plainly rather than assuming the reader has been neglectful.

An oven announces itself with smoke. A hob is at waist height and visibly dirty. A rangehood does neither: it never fails outright, it just extracts less each year, and nothing in ordinary use prompts anyone to drop a filter out and look. A first-home owner has no prior experience telling them this is a maintenance item at all.

So if your Bellini hood has never been opened, that is the norm rather than an oversight. The fix is straightforward and the interval is every couple of months from here.

Check whether it recirculates

In an apartment, ducting to the outside of the building is frequently impossible, so a great many of these are recirculating: they filter the air and return it to the kitchen, using a charcoal filter behind the metal grease filters to handle odour.

Charcoal is a consumable replaced every six to twelve months, never washed. If there is one in your hood and nobody has changed it, the hood is currently doing nothing about smell and has not been for some time. That is the most likely single finding on this brand.

The method

Filters soaked flat in hot water with a non-caustic degreaser, never a dishwasher for aluminium mesh, then the impeller housing behind them with the power isolated first. Our rangehood cleaning guide covers it in full.

What actually goes wrong

A hood never opened at all, which is the standard finding.

An original charcoal filter in a recirculating apartment install.

Grey mesh from a dishwasher cycle.

Should you do it yourself?

Do it yourself for the filters, starting now and repeating every couple of months.

Get someone in for the impeller housing, or alongside the Bellini oven and Bellini cooktop, which will be in the same condition.

Bellini rangehood questions

I have never cleaned my rangehood. Is that bad?
It is extremely common rather than negligent, particularly in a first home. A rangehood never fails outright, it just extracts a little less each year, and nothing in ordinary use prompts anyone to drop a filter out and look. The fix is straightforward: soak the filters now, then repeat every couple of months.
Does my Bellini rangehood have a charcoal filter?
If it recirculates rather than ducting outside, yes, and in an apartment that is likely because ducting to the outside of a building is frequently impossible. It sits behind the metal grease filters, handles odour, and is replaced every six to twelve months rather than washed. An original one years past replacement means the hood is doing nothing about smell.
Can Bellini rangehood filters go in the dishwasher?
Not the aluminium mesh ones, which these use. Dishwasher detergent is strongly alkaline and oxidises aluminium, leaving the mesh a chalky grey that never recovers. Soak them flat in hot water with a non-caustic degreaser for an hour instead, working them with a soft brush along the mesh rather than across it.
