Establish whether the glass is induction or radiant ceramic before anything else, because Electrolux sells both and they behave in opposite ways. Radiant ceramic gets extremely hot and bakes spills on immediately, so the moment to clean is while the zone is still warm.
Electrolux sells induction, radiant ceramic and gas cooktops in Australia, and the two glass types look identical. Our cooktop cleaning guide covers telling them apart and the method for each surface. Two things are specific to this brand.
The platform is shared with Westinghouse and Chef
All three brands are one group, and their hobs are frequently close relatives at three price points. If you are trying to identify an older Electrolux glass surface and the documentation is thin, the equivalent Westinghouse listing usually describes the same hob. See how to clean a Westinghouse cooktop.
It also means a kitchen where appliances were replaced piecemeal over the years frequently holds two or three of these badges, and one method covers all of them.
Hob2Hood, on the models that have it
Some Electrolux hobs drive an Electrolux rangehood by infrared, starting it and adjusting its speed automatically. Where that pairing exists the hood runs considerably more than a manual one and loads its filters faster, while the usual prompt to clean it has been removed. See how to clean an Electrolux rangehood.
The gas models
Where an Electrolux is gas, it carries cast iron or enamelled steel trivets over enamelled burner bases, and the approach is the standard one: photograph the layout before anything comes off, soak the trivets and enamelled caps flat, clear ports with a wooden toothpick rather than metal.
The knobs, and what is behind them
On the gas and older ceramic models the control knobs pull straight off, and almost nobody takes them off.
Behind each one is a spindle passing through the fascia, and around that spindle is a ring of grease that has been accumulating since the hob was installed. It is completely invisible with the knobs in place, which is why it survives every clean the appliance has ever had, and it is one of the first things an end-of-lease inspection finds because agents know to look.
Pull them off, wash them in warm soapy water, dry them, and clean the fascia underneath with a cloth rather than a spray, keeping liquid away from the spindle itself. Then push them back on square. A knob pressed on at an angle sits proud and looks wrong from across the room.
Where the edge trim collects
Most Electrolux glass hobs sit in a frame or against a bead of silicone at the benchtop edge. That junction is narrow, slightly recessed and receives every boil-over the hob has ever had.
Run a damp cloth around it whenever you clean the surface. If it has already darkened and hardened, lay a warm damp cloth along it for ten minutes to soften it before working it with a soft brush. Nothing sharp goes in there, because the silicone underneath is what keeps water out of the cabinetry below.
What actually goes wrong
A radiant ceramic hob treated as induction, so spills are left to cool and then will not shift.
Permanent sugar damage from a boil-over left until the surface cooled.
Filters months overdue on a Hob2Hood pairing.
Rusted trivets on gas models, dried by air rather than by hand.
Should you do it yourself?
Do it yourself, and the answer is timing rather than product: wipe the zone while it is warm and you will rarely need anything more.
