Find the UltimateTaste tier on the rating plate, because it decides whether the oven is pyrolytic, steam-assisted or plain enamel. The three need different treatment, and the badge tells you nothing. General method by cavity type is on our oven cleaning guide.
Electrolux is the parent of both Westinghouse and Chef, and all three sell closely related ovens at three price points. If you own an Electrolux you are frequently looking at the same cavity a neighbour has under a different badge, which is useful when documentation is thin.
The tier decides the method
Electrolux organises its ovens into UltimateTaste tiers, and the tier rather than the badge determines what cleaning system you have.
Higher tiers are commonly pyrolytic, with a cycle in the menu and a door that locks itself. Mid tiers frequently carry SteamBake, a water reservoir that softens residue without removing it. Lower tiers are plain vitreous enamel with no self-clean at all, which is the majority of what is actually installed in Sydney kitchens.

The SteamBake reservoir needs descaling
If your Electrolux has a water reservoir, it scales. A few hundred fill-and-heat cycles will do it even in relatively soft water, and a scaled reservoir delivers less steam while the appliance continues to report that the function is working.
Use the descaling procedure in the manual rather than a general kettle descaler, because the steam circuit runs through parts a strong acid will damage. It is the maintenance job on this brand that nobody knows about.
Three badges, one platform
Because Electrolux, Westinghouse and Chef share engineering, a mixed kitchen takes one approach. Why the tier matters more than the price you paid
There is a specific confusion worth heading off, because it causes real damage.
People reason from brand position. Electrolux sits above Westinghouse and well above Chef, so the assumption is that an Electrolux oven must have the sophisticated cleaning system and the Chef must not. That reasoning fails, because the range spans the full spread. An entry-level Electrolux and a mid-range Westinghouse can be the same cavity with different fascias, and the Electrolux badge on the door says nothing about whether there is a pyrolytic cycle behind it.
The failure mode is someone who has read that their oven is self-cleaning, waits for a cycle that does not exist, and lets a plain enamel cavity go three years without a real clean. By the time they investigate, the carbon on the roof has been baked and cooled several hundred times and behaves more like varnish than fat.
The check takes ten seconds. If the door does not lock itself during a cleaning cycle, there is no pyrolytic function, whatever anyone told you at the point of sale.
The racks and the runners
Electrolux side racks on most models unclip or come away with a single fixing each, and the higher tiers add telescopic pull-out rails. Note which way round each rail sits before it comes off, because left and right are not interchangeable and a reversed rail binds rather than extends, which then gets blamed on the clean.
Do not leave telescopic rails in a strong degreaser for hours. The sliding sections carry a light lubricant that a long soak strips out, and a dry rail is stiff for the rest of its life.
What actually goes wrong
A scaled steam reservoir, quietly delivering less than it should.
An owner assuming pyrolytic because the brand is premium, when the tier is not.
Blued racks left in during a pyrolytic cycle.
A smell after a spotless clean, which is the fan chamber behind the rear baffle.
Should you do it yourself?
Do it yourself on the enamel tiers with a non-caustic cleaner and a proper dwell, or by running the pyrolytic cycle with everything removed and doing the door by hand afterwards.
Get someone in if the oven has years of hard carbon, if the door needs to come apart, or if a smell survives cleaning.
